Job Description

I've had 3 General Sales Manager during my 20 year tenure as General Manager here at Koons Ford Baltimore, and all 3 were promoted to General Managers within our outstanding organization. This is the reason for the ad, and this is a very special position that will lead to a General Manager's position. You must have a significant used car background, well versed in purchasing, pricing, merchandising and managing a large used car inventory. That along with leadership qualities are what I'm looking for. I'm considering former and current General Managers, Generals Sales Managers and current successful Used Car Managers in today's market. We currently sell about 150 new and between 150 - 175 used vehicles every month, and we're looking to increase our numbers from there. We have a very tenured sales team and our finance department is second to none. We take pride in very low chargebacks because we conduct business the right way. We are looking for strong, energetic, people-focused team members who will help us redefine the car-buying experience. he General Sales Manager primary role is to assist the General Manager with overseeing and driving both people and financial success in variable operations.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Hands on active manager that is involved in all aspects of the sales process
  • Work with general manager, sales team, and finance management team to meet monthly new, used, and F&I objectives
  • Assist with inventory management for both new and used car departments
  • Track record of developing and mentoring sales consultants, F&I managers and other sales managers
  • Must possess a strong track record of superior results in a high-volume dealership
  • Excellent customer service (CSI) history
  • Must be willing to and able to consistently work the sales desk and customers turn overs
  • Our GSM's are expected to lead from the front lines, manage and oversee activities of variable operations
  • Must be a highly detailed process driven leader and be able to hold the staff accountable for results
  • Assist sales managers with ensuring volume commitments to the manufacturer are met
  • Partner with the General Manager and meet with managers individually to develop monthly and annual goals and objectives, and to review actual performance
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with lending institutions and manufacturer personnel
  • Communicates management policies and procedures to all Team Members’ attitudes and build morale
  • Hire, train, supervise and monitor performance of sales associates and managers (new, used and finance)
  • Motivate, reward, and train employees
  • Strong asset management skills required
  • Responsible for making sure CIT list is resolved before deadlines
  • Lead by example and ensure that the core values of the company are encompassed in behavior at all times
  • Other duties to be determined by management
  • 5-8 years of automotive experience preferred
  • Strong used car management skills preferred
  • Proven track record and experience as a sales consultant, F&I Manager and Used or New Sales Manager required
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening (background and drug test)
