Minimum Qualifications:

· Six years of full-time work experience in a museum position with significant responsibility

· Knowledge of Florida history

· Skill in written communications, public speaking, and making presentations to stakeholders

· Demonstrated experience with project management, budgeting, and procurement

· At least one year of supervisory experience

· Resume and cover letter 

Preferences:  

· Master’s degree in history, museum studies, public history, or related field

· Experience working in a museum accredited by the American Alliance of Museums

· Strong writing, collaboration, and public speaking and engagement skills.

· Experience with implementing strategic plan goals

Duties and Responsibilities:

· This is managerial work supervising staff and planning and implementing museum program and operational functions within the Bureau of Historical Museums, Division of Historical Resources. The incumbent in this position will plan, organize, direct, and coordinate programs to encourage, promote, maintain, and operate the Museum of Florida History, the Knott House Museum, and the Union Bank Museum, in accordance with museum accreditation requirements and best practices. The responsibilities for this position are, but not limited to, the following duties and responsibilities.

  •   Manages and coordinates all of the administrative, programming, preservation, interpretation, and operational activities of the Museum of Florida History, Knott House Museum, and Union Bank Museum. Leads and supports a diverse staff team including individual and team development, performance/productivity planning and evaluation, and establishing positive and motivational working relationships with staff and constituents.
  • Directs the above museums and is responsible for enhancement of programs, collections, exhibitions, financial resources, and other support activities. Prepares, manages, and implements budgets, develops and implements business plans, interprets financial and audit reports. Determines projects and sets priorities for their achievement.
  • · Provides assistance and direction as a liaison to the Board of Friends of the Museums of Florida History, Inc. Provides oversight for Florida’s History Shop, museum membership program, museum collaborations with external partners, and museum public relations and marketing activities.
  • · Administers and produces permanent, temporary, and traveling exhibits to educate Floridians and visitors about their heritage. Administer and oversee the collection and preservation of unique objects and materials significant to the history of Florida.
  • · Works in cooperation with other staff of the Department of State to promote museum exhibits, programs, and activities.
  • · Performs other work related duties as required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

· Knowledge of museum terminology, exhibitions, collections, and programs;

· Knowledge of museum development principles, methods, and techniques;

· Experience working with Board of Directors and groups of volunteers;

· Knowledge of the principles and practices of non-profit organizations;

· Skill in public speaking and making presentations;

· Ability to plan, organize and direct multiple programs and activities;

· Ability to follow applicable policies and procedures;

· Ability to work independently and as a team member;

· Ability to prepare and analyze data, prepare and analyze financial spreadsheets;

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, board members, government officials, contributors, and the general public;

· Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;

· Ability to organize workflow and coordinate activities;

· Knowledge of budget and human resource management
